Turn Off the Screens!

Postcards went home today to encourage a day without any screens: TVs, movie theater, computer, tablet, Kindle, DSI, or phones.  A day-long challenge?  Two days?  A week?  A kindergarten challenge?  A family challenge?  You decide when, who, and for how long.  Postcards should be returned by Monday, March 3.
We came up with a list of things students could do instead of turning on a screen, though you are certainly not limited to this!

Cassette Player Needed

If you have an old tape player that still works and you don't need it anymore, I would be very grateful for a "new" one!  I have a large listening library on tape, but both my cassette players broke in the same week.  Thank you in advance!

Updates

  • Longfellow's annual Harambee festival has been postponed due to a family matter with the director.  Please watch for information on a new date, likely in March.
  • February's Nourish to Flourish theme is movement and exercise.  To celebrate, Longfellow's Wellness Committee encourages families to pick a day and TURN OFF THE SCREENS!  Students will receive a postcard to decorate and return to school.  They can create a picture showing what they did instead of staring at a screen.
  • Tomorrow's Family Reading Night will have a different storyteller than originally advertised.  Our new storyteller is Linda Gorham.  You can check out her website at http://lindagorham.com/
  • It is not too late to donate books to the Book Swap at tomorrow's Family Reading Night.  Bring them to school tomorrow and I will get them to the Swap.  Come yourself tomorrow night and pick out a "new to you" book!  I hope to see you there!
  • The PTO is still looking for donations of prizes for the Winter Carnival on Saturday, March 8.
  • The last day of school is Tuesday, June 10.
